August 10th, 1859 -- Six miles further and we reached another mail station where we sold some flour at $15 per 100 lbs. Six miles more and we camped for the day and returned on foot to the place we started from in the morning and bought a beef for $40, tried to bring it along but it broke the rope and got into the drove again where we left it. The man we bought it of promising to bring it to us in the morning. It was dark before we left and so we had to travel all the way back after night, I know I was particularly tired and hungry.

Powell
Travelled 11 miles and encamped for the day. We crossed back over this morning 5 miles below Gravelly Ford. I saw Randolph Hesse this morning from Iowa. These roads are very dusty.
